PFA Fellow "Spotlight"

It was in 1974, a banner year for the PFA International, that Dr. George L. Higue became our President. Dr. Higue was the former Chairman of the PFA/Southern California Section. He was responsible for adding many Fellows to this, the largest section of the Academy. He was the long-time Treasurer of the PFA Foundation, and during his tenure he invested the Foundation funds well, for which we are extremely grateful today.

Dr. Higue is 95 years young this year. He still cruises on his '52 cabin cruiser named "100%," berthed at the dock in front of his home in Huntington Beach, California. The University of Southern California (USC) is his alma mater, and he is a major supporter of the School of Dentistry and the athletic department. The new student lounge at the USC School of Dentistry was dedicated to him in 2009. He attends all of the USC football games, which he enjoys from his special sports box seats. He loves all of the pre-game festivities.

Wednesdays are special for Dr. Higue because that is when he takes his granddaughter, Alison, to lunch. Alison is a graduate student in political science at the University of California-Irvine. In addition, Maria Bustamente, who has been his personal secretary for 18 years, visits him every week to take care of his many business interests. "Belle," a 10-year-old Chihuahua, is Dr. Higue's constant companion.

It was a privilege for my wife, Gloria, and me to have lunch with Dr. Higue, Maria, and Emily Kishi, widow of the past PFA President Shig Kishi (1997-1998), recently.

We salute the living legend of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, Dr. George J. Higue. May you have many more happy, healthy, productive years!
